To me, the mark of a memorable blog is one that makes you feel something. Anything really, it can be a good or a bad impression, but it’s something that makes you think about that post long after you’ve seen it.
Jackie from Jackie Riccardi Photography totally got me with her Sandy Island Wedding blog. You see – Sandy Island, a small island in the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee, is like home to me. The island houses a family camp run by the Boston YMCA. It is also where, over 75+ years ago, my grandparents met and fell in love. My father spent entire summers up there when he was a child, and he brought out family back for one week every year when we were growing up.
I was as familiar with this particular location as I was with my own home, but I had never experienced a wedding done there. I had seen images of weddings, a relatively new off-season addition in the history of the camp, but I had never felt they captured the essence of the island. So, when I went to look at Jackie’s images, I was expecting to like them, but I wasn’t anticipating loving them. Boy, was I WRONG – I was blown away!
I immediately connected with the story her images told. I love how she captured the camp and the story of this couple. I had so much fun putting her notes into words and her images into order. I knew, before it was even live, that this was going to be one of my personal favorite blogs.
The moral of this tale is that you never know how readers will connect with your blog posts. It is so important to tell the best story you can from your experience and your images. And maybe, someone will find a home in your post. Like I did with Jackie’s.
